Preparing to Work in Elderly Support Services

Elderly Support

If you have a desire to own or operate an assisted living facility that cares for those aged sixty and above, you must be certified and licensed by the state. There are many ways to receive the necessary training, and there are a number of places online where you can find RCFE certification classes. Upon completing your training, there are generally several other things that need to be considered and completed before being operational.

Facility Potential

An RCFE is a facility that is unique to the residents of California, proving the elderly with assistance for daily living activities that could include grooming and bathing. They can be known as retirement homes, assisted living facilities, and care homes. The opportunity to operate one is open to anyone who completes the licensure testing requirements and the paperwork for operation.

Steps for Certification

Comprehensive RCFE certification classes are just one part of becoming an approved administrator. Your steps will include completing the training before attempting the exam. Upon passing the exam you will be able to submit an application for certification, and pending the outcome of your application, you can move forward with your career plans. There are a number of things you must know before signing up for training, as the state has issued a complete list of approved vendors offering the initial training courses and subsequent continuing education requirements.

Career-long Training

There will also be several fees involved with your application, and your testing schedule is also limited. If you wish to take the certification test for administration, there is a 60 day period of possibilities following the completion of a training program. Administration positions are more involved than those of staff or aids who desire to work in the facility, and there will be more extensive education in the codes of operations, ethics, safety, and elderly car. As an administrator, you are held responsible for the operations of the facility, and while your initial certification training will be extensive, government regulations and elderly care practices can change. Continuing education classes are often required to ensure you are up-to-date with the latest information in the area of assistive care.
